I must echo the sentiments of others regarding the uniqueness due to Joel's absence. In some ways, I'm sad to have missed him as I really enjoy the keys and electronic touches, but without keys it gave a lot more room for heavy guitar-oriented playing. Always good to see a different side of things.
The recording is great. At one point Kevin Browning was caressing the sound right next to me with his touchpad device... It's cool that they care enough about the tapers to tune the sound right there.
Final point on the uniqueness of the show was the lighting problems. Show was late to get started as the power was dead. The power again went out shortly into the show, but Umphreys just kept playing like everything was fine. The stagehands would stand behind with flashlights so they could see what they were doing. Says wonders about the talent and professionalism that they'll just keep playing!
Again - awesome recording. In Bloom was SICK!!!! I have never heard Nirvana that heavy.
Subject: Amazing Recording
This is a very unique show since Joel isn't in it. The keyboard stewart after made to measure is dirty and you probably won't hear Jake and Brendan on keys again any time soon.
Definitely worth the DL.
Subject: THANK YOU
I saw my first mosh-pit at an Umphrey's show during that Nirvana song...I think Jake and Brendan we're even taken aback by it!
It was also a very interesting show because Joel wasn't there, so Brendan and Jake took it upon themselves to switch off doing keyboards. At one point they we're both rockin' the keys while Ryan kept the melody and the bass line bumping.
